Promptly Books is a nimble alternative press that keeps costs low and flexibility high by using print-on-demand through Lulu.com and Amazon. Promptly offers a 50/50 revenue split with authors, much more balanced than the typical ratios that skew dramatically in the publisher’s favour (and which are nevertheless insufficient to keep many small presses in the black).
Promptly books are generally pocket-sized, designed for portability—something you can take to the café or the park in place of a smart phone. The press focuses on collaborative community-building among academics and artists who want to reach broader audiences. Publishing is sustainable and low-waste: no storage, no piles of unsold stock.
We’re interested in unusual ideas communicated in approachable ways. This means no fancy language unless fancy is needed. We publish literature, non-fiction ideas pieces, educational workbooks, and perhaps the odd artist book.
